This week on The Kaito and Red Show, we dive into one of the biggest topics in gaming right now: the future of digital games. Sony's reported plans to end disc production for PlayStation games in 2028 have us wondering what the future of physical media looks like, and things only get more concerning from there. We also discuss reports that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch as a digital-only release, the impending shutdown of the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita digital stores, and what all of this means for game preservation and ownership.
Not everything is doom and gloom, though. We also take a look at SEGA's latest sales figures and discuss why franchises like Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and Like a Dragon continue to be some of the company's biggest success stories.
In the games we play segment, we somehow fail to limit ourselves to just three Nintendo 3DS game recommendations and end up celebrating one of Nintendo's greatest handheld libraries instead. We also share our finds from the Steam Summer Sale and talk about Red's dive into the Hellraiser movies while on vacation.
For this week's Question of the Week, we set out to recommend games you can comfortably play while listening to a podcast, but Kaito somehow interpreted that as an opportunity to recommend podcasts instead.
